OUR MISSION

Inspiring each other to grow through music

The Exeter Music Centre is a brand new, welcoming group which has been set up to help adults to further their music, to get back into music, or to get into music for the first time.

We are a not-for-profit organisation and our mission is to help adult amateur musicians of any standard to grow through music. We aim to do this through:

Offering Space

Members will benefit from a supportive environment to meet, practise, rehearse, teach, learn, share and (for those who want to) perform.

Building Connections

Members will be able to connect with others who have similar interests and with local music groups and choirs they are interested in joining.

Running Events

Members will be able to develop their skills through inexpensive workshops and courses, and also gain performance experience by joining in with informal events in the community.

WE believe in YOU!

We believe that each of us has a wealth of knowledge, and all of us have more to learn. Our vision is a network of musicians who are keen to share their knowledge and to learn from each other – to help each other to develop their musical skills, for the enjoyment and pleasure of making better music together.

We have a convenient city-centre location which is available to EMC Members for informal playing sessions, lessons, rehearsals, recording, individual practice and small-scale performances.

City Centre Location

We are a Making Music Group, which means that our members can take advantage of benefits like inexpensive instrument insurance and access to a huge library of music.

BEGINNERS. RETURNERS. IMPROVERS. TEACHERS. LEADERS. SUPPORTERS.

PLEASE JOIN US!

Whether you are a complete beginner, a returner wondering where to go next, an experienced amateur looking to make connections or try something new, a teacher looking for people to teach or a venue to teach from, a group leader looking for new members, or a combination of more than one of these things – we need you to help us to turn this vision into reality!

Lets make better music Together!

Join us today. It’s completely free.

To join Exeter Music Centre just submit this short form, and we’ll be in touch soon. We look forward to meeting you!

Many members will fall into multiple categories so please select all that apply - and you can of course be a beginner, returner and / or an improver at the same time if you play more than one instrument!

Beginners

We are here to help you to take the first step. We promise we won’t ask you to play or sing anything the first time we meet you!

Returners

It’s just like riding a bicycle – it’s all still there. We can help you to pick up where you left off, brush off the rust, and continue your musical journey!

Improvers

Let us help you move beyond practising on your own in your living room. Everyone with music in their hearts deserves a chance to share it!

Teachers

We can offer you a lovely place to teach from in the heart of Exeter, and it won’t cost the earth. In fact it might not cost you anything at all…

Leaders

If you are involved in running a local music group and are looking for new members, we REALLY want to hear from you. We are here to make connections!

Supporters

If you enjoy listening to live music and are keen to support others in their musical journeys, join us as a Supporter and we’ll tell you about upcoming events!

Our Core Beliefs

That the study and playing of music at any level has intrinsic value, regardless of whether the players perform for the public.

That the study and playing of music in groups greatly increases that intrinsic value.

That getting together to make music offers each of us the opportunity to support others, and to help ourselves in the process.
